In October, the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts conducted an audit of the museum located at Talladega Superspeedway.
According to the official audit report, the examiner identified a total of 35 alleged instances of noncompliance.
Two notable instances of noncompliance allege that the commission “failed to maintain a listing of historic vehicles and memorabilia in its possession” and “money was improperly deposited into the personal account of a Commission member.”
Regarding the vehicles, the report alleges that a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona and a 2001 Pontiac Firebird Firehawk 10th Anniversary Convertible were reported as sold after being donated to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame Commission. However, these vehicles, along with proceeds from their sales, were not present in Commission records.
The International Motorsports Hall of Fame was founded in 1983 and is located north of Talladega Superspeedway’s turn four. Members of the Hall of Fame include NASCAR legends like the Allison family and Neil Bonnett, alongside American racing legends like Mario Andretti.
The museum also features notable vehicles from the history of motorsports, such as Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s DEI-004 superspeedway car, which won at Talladega on multiple occasions in 2001 and 2002.
The complete 18-member commission has already been replaced with a new batch of appointees introduced on October 31, 2025.
