What’s Happening?
Following what they claim was a “blocked” sponsorship in 2024, Sex Toy Producer Womanizer is “Calling out” NASCAR with ads across Daytona Beach. The brand claims this is unfair, as NASCAR has a history of accepting “brands that cater to men’s intimacy and performance.”
NASCAR confirmed to Zach Dean of OutKick.com that a team requested approval for sponsorship from the Womanizer in April 2024. This confirms what Womanizer claims in its advertisements and billboards in Daytona Beach. However, which the team requested approval is unknown.
The brand has also made a lengthy post on its Instagram. In that post they cite that NASCAR has allowed men’s sexual health brands such as ExtenZe, GAINSWave, and Viagra to sponsor cars. However, the sport would not allow their company, which they describe as a “women’s sexual wellness brand,” to feature “non-explicit branding” on a race car.
The billboards are located outside of Daytona International Speedway, the site of this week’s Daytona 500 Speedwells and NASCAR headquarters. They feature a generic stock car and state, “Not on the track, still coming first.” Womanizer also has a mobile billboard with an ad reading “They Passed on Us. You Won’t.”
Womanizer also asks “where the sport draws its moral boundaries.” This is in reference to their rejection by NASCAR while the sport allows alcohol brands, nicotine brands, and firearm producers. Current examples include Ross Chastain’s sponsor, Busch Beer; Kyle Busch’s sponsor, Zone; and Austin Dillon’s sponsor, Winchester.
Background
Womanizer, much like some of the listed men’s sexual wellness brands, does more than produce sex toys. For example, on their website, they have a fund called The Pleasure Fund. They claim this fund will “invest 250,000€ over the next five years in research on female sexual health, sexual well-being and sexual pleasure.”
NASCAR has a history of disallowing sponsors from the sport as recent as 2022. That season, NASCAR rejected the sponsorship of the crypto coin LGBcoin by Brandon Brown. This was not due to the political aspects of the sponsor, but rather the meaning behind the “Let’s Go, Brandon” phrase.
