What’s Happening?

This morning it was announced that ARCA driver, James “Jake” Finch, will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut in the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet this weekend at Dover Motor Speedway. This news is hardly a shock as a couple of months back, Dale Earnhardt Jr. inadvertently spilled the beans on his Dale Jr. Download podcast.

The Monster Mile is a tough track for any rookie driver to make their debut. The No. 17 car for HMS is a winning caliber ride. It will be interesting to see how Finch performs compared to Corey Day, who has made numerous starts in the seat this season.

  • Jake Finch currently competes part-time in the ARCA Menards Series and the ARCA Menards East Series for Venturini Motorsports. So far this season, he has competed in three races, with a best finish of 7th at Talladega. In 2024, he won in the series at Talladega. In addition, he has visited Victory Lane at Dover in the past. In 2023, he won an ARCA Menards East race at the track.
  • Jake Finch is the son of legendary NASCAR team owner, James Finch, who famously owned Phoenix Racing. Though Phoenix Racing no longer competes at NASCAR’s top level, it can be still be seen from time to time in the ARCA Menards Series.
  • The reason this news wasn’t a shock was that Dale Earnhardt Jr. leaked the debut on his podcast back in May. This came after Kyle Larson claimed that he liked running Xfinity races to “whoop” the competition. While talking about this, Jr. let is slip that the No. 17 ride was full for 2025. He named dropped drivers such as Corey Day, Jake Finch, and Rajah Caruth as drivers set to make starts in the car this year.
  • Though nothing is announced, with this announcement, Caruth is expected to make a start for HMS at some point this season.
