What’s Happening?

iRacing’s NASCAR 25 is less than a year away from its projected release date, but several questions remain about its release. One major question facing NASCAR fans is whether or not it will be available on PC. Let’s piece together the available information and see what we can figure out.

What Are These Fans Worried About?

While it may be odd not to see a modern racing title on PC, it’s not entirely out of the picture for this title with iRacing as the developer.

iRacing, in addition to its duties as NASCAR’s solo publisher, operates its name service, iRacing. This is not your traditional racing game; iRacing is an advanced simulator used by drivers and fans to get the most out of online racing competition.

The service is based on a subscription, meaning you pay monthly. Some PC racers are worried that iRacing will see NASCAR ’25 on PC as competition for its main service, keeping the new game off PC. While iRacing has never said this would be the case. You could refer to the company’s World of Outlaws Dirt Racing as proof.

This game, featuring dirt racing from the World of Outlaws Series, is only available on consoles and not on PC. However, iRacing, the online service, has the cars used in WoOs as an available series. While this is a simple inference, history and an overlooked detail in the release trailer may have already answered this question.

NASCAR Gaming on PC in Recent History

While this fear that iRacing could pass over PC availability for NASCAR ’25 is valid. History will tell us that NASCAR console games are available on PC.

Every single NASCAR Heat game, Evolution through Five, was available on PC. Furthermore, Motorsport Games, the former developer and publisher of NASCAR games, released their lone multiplatform game, NASCAR 21: Ignition on PC.

Even dating back to NASCAR The Game: Inside Line, NASCAR games are available to play on PC. Even though looking at recent history can help answer this question, why don’t we go straight to the source itself?

Steam Availability

In October 2023, when NASCAR announced the partnership with iRacing, their teaser trailer featured the logos of the available platforms. This small yet seemingly forgotten detail included online PC gaming retailer Steam.

Steam is a digitally exclusive distribution service that releases video games for PC users. Most of the previously mentioned titles saw their release on Steam, and some of those are still available on Steam. If the game is truly available on Steam perhaps NASCAR ’25 could even be available on Steam Deck.

Steam Deck allows users to take their Steam games on the go. While that October 2023 post mentioned the Nintendo Switch, perhaps Steam Deck availability could allow NASCAR fans the most diverse playability in NASCAR gaming history.

While some fans worry that iRacing would push the new game off PC, most need to remember that iRacing seems to be invested in the community’s opinions. They have continued to factor fans into their decisions since taking over development for the new game, and surely they will do so on this issue.
