Did you know that NASCAR had a show on cartoon network? Well, kind of had a show. Current NASCAR drivers Bayley Currey and Daniel Hemric participated in a show called “Track Rats” about them competing for a ride in NASCAR, and here is what it was about.
What is “Track Rats”
There is no other video that exists of this Cartoon Network series, but man is this interesting. Whenever you were a kid and you saw these feature stories of kid athletes, or even nowadays when watching things like the Little League World Series the question becomes, “Where will this kid be in 10 years?” Well, now, we can answer where Daniel Hemric, Bayley Curry, and Kenzie Ruston ended up.
Hemric made it all the way to the Cup Series for one full-time season, and, he went on to win the Xfinity Series championship in 2021. Currey has made select starts in the Cup Series, but had had most of his success in lower divisions including a top-5 at Atlanta in the Truck Series this spring with Niece Motorsports. As for Ruston, she never advanced past ARCA despite 17 top-tens in the K&N Pro Series, but her husband turned out to be none other than her Cartoon Network co-star, Daniel Hemric.
Crazy Legs Productions was the producers of this show, and they described it as, “capturing the trials and tribulations of kids chasing the dream of becoming a NASCAR driver.” Seemingly, it follows the three drivers journeys while racing in Legends cars. Which is a popular form of racing for younger drivers.
There really is not a lot out there on the Internet about this show. No clips, no episodes, nothing. It is barely even a footnote in NASCAR TV history, and, obviously, it did not make the impact desired. Regardless, it’s interesting, and NASCAR Reddit even had some thing to say on what they found.
In the Stands
This is a podcast that I NEED to listen to.
Talk about a blast from the past.
Wait a minute, I did not put two and two together until this moment.
It has to be somewhere does it not?
So did I CaptainRon16.
ToeSniffer245 talks about this as a moment from a certain era of Cartoon Network.
Talk about an interesting footnote, but not much more than that. It’s interesting to see how NASCAR drivers work their way up through the ranks throughout the years. Even if this show really did not have any staying power or much value.
