The Greatest Of All Time, or GOAT, for short. It’s a debate that happens in all sports, but, the NASCAR debate may be the most interesting. When taking into account statistics, eras, competition, and everything in between, who is the real GOAT of NASCAR?

  • Richard Petty: Petty has untouchable records that will never be topped. However, the competition in that era was not nearly as intense as it is today, so, his stats may be a bit skewed. Keep in mind how he finished his career on a bit downward trend.
  • David Pearson: Pearson had 105 wins and three Championships, both a far cry from Richard Petty’s win and Championship totals. However, he did not run full-time nearly as much as Petty did, so, is his record more about quality than quantity?
  • Dale Earnhardt: While his win total may be lower, Earnhardt raced in fully competitive fields during his career, unlike Pearson and Petty’s career. Earnhardt won seven titles during an era where he raced against great drivers, and he had to win in a season-long points format.
  • Jeff Gordon: Jeff Gordon has the most wins in the modern era of NASCAR. He also raced in one of the most competitive eras in NASCAR history, along with having an impeccable prime. Despite this, he only has four Championships to his name, but, could he have had more?
  • Jimmie Johnson: Jimmie Johnson’s 7 Championships came in the Playoff era, but, they still came under the same rules that everyone had to play under. Still, the unceremonious ending to his career was not impressive.

Who is the real GOAT of NASCAR? Did we leave somebody out that should have been included in this video? For as long as NASCAR exists, this debate will rage on.
