According to Hunter Cooke of Sports Business Journal, NASCAR has a ‘substantial announcement’ regarding NASCAR console gaming. Adam Stern retweeted that statement on twitter as well.

Now, this can mean a myriad of different things. It could mean anything from a new NASCAR game to a new developer to a DLC. With that being said, what type of things do NASCAR gaming fans hope is said and/or needs to be said whenever this announcement is made?

A New, Functional, NASCAR Game

Quite frankly, this is the bare minimum that some NASCAR fans are asking for. At the very least they want a new NASCAR console video game that is functional. NASCAR 21: Ignition was a complete, unmitigated disaster. It was riddled with bugs and an online experience that was anything but streamlined.

Even NASCAR Heat 5 was just a copy and paste to many, and even that game has recently been compromised for many thanks to the 2022 DLC. You have to go all the way back to September of 2019 and NASCAR Heat 4 for the last, full-featured, functional, NASCAR console video game.

Even then, for many a new NASCAR game is simply not enough. They want bigger changes to be made. They not only want a new game, but a new game with a different developer.

Dropping Motorsport Games

Motorsport Games fell out of favor of the NASCAR community a long time ago. It all started with the disaster that was NASCAR 21: Ignition, and it has only gotten worse from there.

Many NASCAR fans want Motorsport Games gone from the sport. They want NASCAR console gaming to start over from scratch, given the fact that Motorsport Games has only released a Nintendo Switch game and an update to a three-year-old game since NASCAR 21: Ignition.

NASCAR cannot be happy about that fact. However, if NASCAR drops Motorsport games, then who could they go to?

A New Console Video Game Developer

NASCAR has relationships with other companies when it comes to video games. They most recently announced the development of an arcade style game called NASCAR Arcade Rush by GameMill Entertainment. NASCAR also has relationships with iRacing, and NASCAR even now has a game on Roblox.

The relationships are there for NASCAR to create something. Even if all it is is filler NASCAR content until the next full console video game. Something similar to NASCAR Kart Racing on the Wii, which was released between NASCAR 09 and NASCAR The Game 2011.

Some are even dreaming that NASCAR could partner with iRacing to develop a console NASCAR game using the iRacing engine. It is the company born out of Papyrus, which developed NASCAR Racing: 2003, arguably the greatest NASCAR video game of all-time. However, that group has not created a console NASCAR game since NASCAR Racing 2 back in 1996 on the original Play Station.

Yes, your math is correct if you say that game is pushing 27 years old. So, is it a guarantee that someone like iRacing would make a good console game? Well, iRacing did help out with the development of the World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing video game, so, maybe they have what they need.

Regardless of how this ultimately works out and what is said, NASCAR seems to notice the importance of the console gaming sphere. Something is in the works if an announcement is imminent. Hopefully it is something big.
