Jon Lewis of Sports Media Watch has reported TV ratings for the New Hampshire race on Monday. According to Lewis, the Cup Series race at New Hampshire averaged 1.03 million viewers.
The race compared pretty well to other rain-delayed NASCAR races. The last cable NASCAR race run on Monday was at Dover back in May, where the race pulled in 1.067 million viewers. That was an increase over 944,000 viewers from the 2022 race, also delayed to Monday.
New Hampshire came in about 3.5% below this year’s Dover race, but New Hampshire was 9.1% above the rain-delayed Dover race last season. In essence, New Hampshire was pretty on-par with most rain delayed NASCAR races.
It did clock in well below the only other Monday race this year, the Coca-Cola 600, but that race was held on FOX on Memorial day. The Coca-Cola 600 this year drew in almost 3.4 million viewers on network TV.
This year was also unsurprisingly well below the New Hampshire race last year, run on schedule on Sunday. According to racingnews.co, the 2022 race drew in 2.403 million viewers, which made 2023 a 57% decrease.
Every NBC race this year has been effected by rain in some regard. Nashville’s start time was moved up because of rain threatening, and Chicago was delayed by a little over an hour. Atlanta was rain-shortened after 185 laps.
Despite this, NBC actually showed improved TV ratings for both Chicago and New Hampshire. Atlanta was 2.5% down from last year. With rain not in the forecast for Pocono, will NBC finally have a clean TV ratings comparison?
