Recently, our very own John Rizzo took to our YouTube to talk about why people HATE Fox’s NASCAR coverage. We decided to pull some of the most interesting comments from this video and analyze them. What did the fans have to say about Fox’s NASCAR coverage?

The Booth

The booth is what most of the fans had thoughts on when commenting on this video. The Fox booth has gone through some major changes in recent years from the traditional Mike Joy, Darrell Waltrip, and Larry McReynolds booth to having Joy partner with Clint Bowyer and Kevin Harvick in 2024. Some fans gave their thoughts on the booth including edflaherty1887

He is not the only one who does not love how the booth is currently set up. Mike Joy is not as disliked as others, but Clint Bowyer, in particular, is not as well-liked. He was hired essentially to replace Darrell Waltrip, and not every fan likes it. Then again, Bowyer has only been in the booth for three seasons, so it may take time for him to develop. Glitchunlocked offered a slightly alternate perspective.

He felt that Mike Joy should stay for now, and Adam Alexander could step in in the near future. Alexander is currently a commentator for the Xfinity Series and select Craftsman Truck Series races, and fan sentiment towards him is not all bad. Glitchunlocked did mention that he did not like Bowyer in the booth and that the revolving door of announcers needs to go. Well, at least one of those problems will be solved when Kevin Harvick joins. evanwilliams6406 discussed more about the booth.

He specifically mentioned that Jamie McMurray is the best guest commentator Fox has brought in. Many people like what Jamie McMurray brought to the table, but he will not be in the booth in 2024. Could McMurray join the booth at some point in the future? Maybe he can, but the booth was not the only thing that people talked about.

The Production

The production is also something that many people talked about. From the cartoon graphics to the overemphasis on comedy to some claiming that Fox does not take the sport seriously. Regardless, here is what the fans had to say about the production starting with dcaseng

Dcaseng specifically brings up Fox’s emphasis on comedy. Now, having a little bit of fun on a race broadcast is not a bad thing by any means. It can be a great compliment, especially on a broadcast where the race can get strung out. However, some feel that the comedy gets old, and dceseng also brings up how Fox can tend to miss battles outside of the top-10. Bde110790 also had some things to say about the production.

They specifically bring up camera work, and camera work is an interesting thing to talk about. Motorsports are tough to capture since there are so many cars on track, but, usually, broadcasts are able to pick up when something interesting happens. When they do miss something, it feels very disjointed, and Fox has had its’ fair share of moments as well. Rustshackleford6147 also gave their thoughts.

This commenter brings up how they feel Fox is beginning to lose some interest in NASCAR due to the TV rights deal costing so much money. It is worth noting that John Ourand reported that Fox would give only a slight increase should they re-up with NASCAR. Maybe Fox has not prioritized NASCAR as much as it has in the past, but, if Fox wants NASCAR back, there is obviously some value they see in it.

The fans had a lot of interesting points when commenting on this video. What other things can be said about Fox’s NASCAR coverage?
