What’s Happening?

This weekend, the NASCAR circus rolls into Atlanta Motor Speedway for the second race of the season. Atlanta races in the spring have had a few races hampered by rain in the past, but, will this year be another one? Here is the current weekend forecast for the Atlanta race weekend.

  • Atlanta Motor Speedway is one of NASCAR’s most historic race tracks. Built in 1960, the track has undergone major changes since its inception. The current iteration is a 1.54 mile intermediate quad-oval, but, the 28 degrees of banking mean the track races similar to a superspeedway.
  • The track most recently dealt with weather issues in 2023 during the summer race, where a rain shower ended the race after 185 laps. When Atlanta was the second race of the season between 2015 and 2019, there were two weather-impacted races.
  • Fans are excited for this weekend’s race, but, they are hoping for good weather. Both of the NASCAR weekends so far have been heavily impacted by weather.

Atlanta Motor Speedway Spring Weather History

In recent years, Atlanta Motor Speedway has been pretty lucky in terms of weather in the spring, but, there have been some issues. One such race was in 2015 when rain delayed the start, and fog along with cold weather lingered over the entire race. Jimmie Johnson took home the win.

In 2018, a similar weather pattern emerged. Rain delayed the race, causing the end of the race to be under the glow of stadium lights. Kevin Harvick began his streak of 2018 dominance by winning.

It seems Atlanta may have drawn a good card for the weather this time around. Will it stay that way?
