What’s Happening?
NASCAR’s National Series have avoided rain so far in the playoffs. However, if bad weather were to happen in the Playoffs, it would only make the Charlotte Roval even more chaotic. So, will it be a normal weekend in Concord, or will NASCAR have to pull out the rain tires?
- The Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval debuted in 2018 and was the first oval/road course hybrid that the Series consistently uses. Other tracks with similar concepts include the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course and the Daytona International Speedway Road Course. However, the Roval is the only one built with NASCAR in mind.
- The NASCAR Cup Series has raced at the Roval since its 2018 debut. The Cup Series has traditionally raced twice a year at Charlotte since 1960. The first Roval race is an important pillar in NASCAR history as it seemingly marked a generational turning point in recent NASCAR history.
- The NASCAR Xfinity Series has raced at the Roval since its 2018 debut. However, the Series has raced at Charlotte Motor Speedway twice yearly since 1982. The Series has had one driver, A.J. Allmendinger, dominate the Roval since its inception, winning all four races from 2019 to 2022.

Roval Weather History
- The Charlotte Roval has had one notable rain delay race since its 2018 debut. The 2020 race saw the Cup Series dealing with damp conditions. However, the Xfinity Series race was a notable downpour, with multiple incidents taking place throughout the race.
- If the weather is good in Charlotte, the Rovals hot streak of adequate weather racing will continue. However, this spring oval race at Charlotte saw Kyle Larson’s “Indy Charlotte double” hopes go up in steam as NASCAR delayed and ended the 600-mile race early due to High Humidity. However, if there is rain this weekend, NASCAR has the wet weather package and lighting available for teams.
