What’s Happening?
It’s the first race of the Round of 12, and the three NASCAR National Series are returning to Kansas Speedway. The Playoffs have yet to be affected by bad weather. However, will that change this weekend?
- Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, KS, has been a part of the NASCAR schedule since its opening in 200. The 1.5-mile oval is a sister track to the abandoned Chicagoland Speedway.
- The NASCAR Cup Series has raced at Kansas Speedway since 2001. The track first earned two race dates a year in 2011, a role it has held ever since.
- The NASCAR Xfinity Series has raced at Kansas Speedway since 2001. The track first earned two race dates a year in 2020. However, it returned to once a year in 2021.
- The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has raced at Kansas Speedway since 2001. The track first earned two race dates a year in 2022. However, in 2020, the series raced at the track three times due to rescheduling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kansas Weather History
Of the last 21 Cup Series races at Kansas Speedway, weather postponed no races, and weather delayed three races. While Kansas had a solid rainless streak heading into this year, the track snapped that streak this spring with a multi-hour rain delay in May.
While NASCAR doesn’t use its wet weather package at 1.5-mile tracks, Kansas does have lights that can turn on as the night goes on. With the 2 p.m. CT start, there is more than enough room to squeeze a race on Sunday.
