What’s Happening?

Tuesday, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Ty Majeski went home to Wisconsin to vote in the 2024 election. In doing so, he missed the required Championship Four production day, an event he was required to attend. Now, he is facing a $12,500 fine from NASCAR.

  • Ty Majeski qualified for the Championship 4 at Phoenix Raceway after last Friday’s race at Martinsville. As one of four drivers eligible for the championship at Phoenix, Majeski was required to attend Tuesday’s Championship 4 production day.
  • Championship 4 production day is used by NASCAR’s media to sit down with the championship finalist drivers. These interviews produce high-quality video content for use during championship weekend. Majeski, rather than attend this event, chose to head home and vote in person in the 2024 U.S. Presidential election.
  • On Tuesday, as part of one of NASCAR’s most significant penalty reports this season, NASCAR fined Majeski $12,500 for missing this required event.
  • At Thrusday’s media availability in Phoenix, Majeksi told the media that he prefers to vote in person because “there’s been a lot of stuff going on over the course of the last couple elections.” He further clarified that he has always preferred to vote this way. When asked why he didn’t vote earlier, he stated that if he had known he was going to the Championship Four prior to this week, “that might have certainly been an option to look into.”

What’s Next?

  • Majeski plans to appeal this penalty. He stated today that he knew he would face a fine for his actions. However, he did not expect the $12,500 fine he received, as that is higher than another notable incident from Martinsville. In that incident, Majeski cited Chandler Smith, who received just a $10,000 fine for slapping Cole Custer following Saturday’s Xfinity Series race.
  • NASCAR has never fined a driver for such a circumstance, as the voting implications make this different than skipping a media appearance.
