What’s Happening?
Bubba Wallace’s No. 23 pit crew nearly broke a NASCAR record this past weekend. This pit stop is a sign of a great improvement on the part of 23XI Racing, one that fans of the team and its drivers have long awaited.
Almost a Record
The No. 23 pit crew of @BubbaWallace completed a four tire pit stop in just 8.22 seconds yesterday.

This ties them with the No. 19 crew for the second fastest NASCAR pit stop of all time.

Bubba Wallace’s late pit stop under yellow at Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400 saw the No. 23 team make an 8.22-second pit stop. The No. 23 was the first off pit road, and while the car did not go on to win Sunday afternoon, this stop was a highlight of the day.
With everything on the line at Homestead, this stop officially tied the crew with Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 19 team for the second-fastest all-time NASCAR pit stop. The No. 23 team has gone from one of the laughingstocks of pit road to a fierce competitor.
What Changed?
The No. 23 team saw one major overhaul this season as long-time Crew Chief Bootie Barker stepped out of his role at season’s end. In exchange, 23XI Racing hired Charles Denike, promoting the crew chief from the Truck Series.
Last season, Denike ran one of the best teams in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at McAnally-Hilgemann Racing. The No. 19 truck, piloted by Christian Eckes, won four races and had 22 top tens in 23 races.
However, as Bozi Tatarevic pointed out on X today, the team is also making upgrades on the pit road side, such as hiring pit crew coach Jon Carvin, the former head pit crew coach at Hendrick Motorsports.
Looks like @23XIRacing has hired @JonCarvin as a pit crew coach based on the Martinsville roster.

How Big of a Change is This?
Having a refreshed No. 23 team is good for Wallace, whose time at 23XI has stalled since his last win at Kansas in 2022.

Throughout his tenure at the team, since it opened in 2021, Wallace’s crew and other 23XI crews have been the subject of memes and displeasure from fans. This is thanks to slow stops and a few laughable mishaps on track. Regardless, the crew looks strong early on in 2025, something 23XI and Wallace’s fans are relieved about.
Go back to 2022 and try to tell a Bubba fan this is waiting in the wings.

Wallace’s losing streak currently stands at 86 races. With everything firing on all cylinders and the No. 23 team seventh in points, it looks like the No. 23 team may have finally turned a major corner.
