Not every NASCAR track is a winner. Today, John Rizzo looks at the bottom of the barrel, the absolute worst tracks currently in NASCAR. Here is his bottom 5.
- #5 Pocono – While Pocono has improved in recent years, is still barely cracks this list for a few reasons. Passing is difficult, the cars get spread out, and the weather can be iffy at times. However, fans enjoy Pocono in person, and recent years have provided some exciting moments.
- #4 Indianapolis – The appeal of Indianapolis is the prestige of winning at the Brickyard, not necessarily the racing product. While there have been some memorable moments, there have been some ugly moments. It’s a track not designed for NASCAR, but, it’s still the Brickyard.
- #3 Sonoma – Sonoma has always been “The other” road course. Whether it’s a different configuration or a different race car, the track continues to produce boring races. However, fans at the track enjoy it, and it never rains at the track.
- #2 Phoenix – While Phoenix put on some well-received races in the Gen-6 era, it’s been lackluster in the Next-Gen era. The track also hosts the Championship race, which makes a bad on-track product even tougher to swallow.
- #1 Texas – Old Texas was not bad, but new Texas has been a disaster. A questionable reconfiguration and an overabundance of PJ1 have impacted both NASCAR and IndyCar. Even in the Next-Gen era, the races have continued to struggle.
