What’s Happening?

With Kyle Busch out for this weekend’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Spire Motorsports has tabbed Hendrick Motorsports prospect Corey Day to take over driving duties of the No. 7 truck.

  • News of Busch’s hospitalization with an undisclosed illness broke early Thursday morning. Initially, while Richard Childress Racing quickly had a substitute for their No. 8 car in Austin Hill, Spire was left without an option for their No. 7 truck.
  • Now, Spire has announced that Hendrick Motorsports’ top prospect and current NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Corey Day will pilot the No. 7. This race will serve as Day’s first start in the Truck Series in 2026, and his first outside the OAP Series this season.
  • So far in his young NASCAR career, Day has 13 career Craftsman Truck Series starts. In total, nine of those starts have come with Spire in the No. 7 truck last season as part of a hybrid schedule in NASCAR.
  • While he has yet to find victory lane in the series, Day has shown promise, sitting on the pole at Las Vegas last season and scoring three top-ten finishes in a row. This year, in the OAP Series, Day is finally proving to be a noteworthy future talent, already scoring two wins.
