What’s Happening?

The Secret Service is assisting local law enforcement in the investigation into alleged cyber crimes against the Biffle family following their passing in a December plane crash.

While NASCAR fans and local communities were still reeling from the loss of NASCAR legend Greg Biffle and seven others, including his family, in a December 18 plane crash, a break-in occurred at the family home in early January.

This story remained quiet throughout the spring, though late last month, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office identified a person of interest in their investigation.

Initially, reports said a backpack and $30,000 were taken from the home during this break, though new reports say firearms were also taken from the home.

Still, the story had more layers, as recent reports claimed that the person involved in the break-in had “previous knowledge” of the family’s nearly 13,000-square-foot home.

Last week, another turn in this shocking saga came when it surfaced that numerous cyber crimes had drained hundreds of thousands of dollars from the late family’s banking accounts.

Per a new report from David Hodges of WBTV Charlotte, as part of this ongoing investigation, the United States Secret Service is now assisting the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in its investigation into online fraud.

Those who conducted the alleged cyberattack targeted the family’s bank accounts, email accounts, and the Venmo account of Biffle’s late wife, Cristina Grossu.

While the investigation is ongoing and there have been filings for several search warrants, no arrests have been made.

Furthermore, the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation into the crash that killed g Biffle, his wife Cristina, their son Ryder, his daughter Emma, as well as Dennis Dutton, his son Jack Dutton, and Craig Wadsworth is ongoing, with updates coming on occasion since the investigation launched on December 19.
