Focused Health 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway

No. 20 Gazoo Racing Toyota GR Supra News and Notes:

  • TRUEX AT ATLANTA: Ryan Truex and the No. 20 Gazoo Racing Toyota GR Supra crew head to Atlanta this weekend for the Focused Health 250, fresh off back-to-back wins for the No. 20 car at Daytona and Darlington. Truex has five starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway, including three on the new configuration. In five starts at the track, Truex has two top-fives, four top-10s, eight laps led, and an impressive finish of 7.0. Truex has a best finish of third which he has earned twice in 2022 and 2023. Since joining JGR and running on the track’s new configuration, Truex’s worst finish at Atlanta is ninth which came earlier this year when he ran out of fuel coming to the checkered flag.
  • LAST TIME OUT: Truex’s last start at Daytona turned into a career highlight as he scored his third career Xfinity Series win, and his second win in just eight starts this season. Truex ran up front for most of the night as he started sixth and earned sixth and third place finishes in the first two stages, respectively. Truex led 28 laps en route to his victory, which included the final eight laps to secure the sixth win on the year for Tyler Allen and the No. 20 Toyota GR Supra crew.
  • ON THE PITBOX: Rookie crew chief Tyler Allen is off to a strong start to his crew chief career as he has already scored five wins with four different drivers. Allen has been at JGR since 2015, most recently as the lead engineer on Christopher Bell’s No. 20, led by Adam Stevens, a position he has held since 2021. He also worked under Stevens as the lead engineer on the No. 18 from 2019-2020. In 2017, Allen made his move to the Cup Series on the No. 18 as a race engineer, a position he held for two years. His first position at JGR came in 2015 as he was hired to be the race engineer on the No. 54 NASCAR Xfinity Series car with Kyle Busch. Allen won the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series championship and 25 races across his seven years in JGR’s Cup shop, as well as 19 Xfinity races during his time in the series.
  • JGR AT DAYTONA: Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) drivers have combined for 73 starts at AMS. JGR cars have visited Victory Lane six times with five different drivers – Christopher Bell, Mike Bliss, Kyle Busch, Ty Gibbs, and most recently, John Hunter Nemechek. Ryan Truex, Driver of the No. 20 Gazoo Racing Toyota GR Supra:

“You are managing to have a career year on a part-time schedule. What do you think is different and how do you plan to keep it up in Atlanta?”

Things are really starting to click. It’s my third year in a row with JGR so I’m more comfortable. Also, I’ve just grown so much as a driver over the past three years. I think getting that win at Dover last year did a lot for my perspective and understanding of what it takes to win and I’ve just been building myself from there. Atlanta is always a challenge but it’s been good to me ever since the reconfiguration so I’m hoping to stick to my plan in year’s past of quietly running up front and hoping for things to go our way at the end. You can’t force the issue at a track like this and I think that favors my driving style and veteran role in this series.”
