What’s Happening?

Former NASCAR Cup Series Champion Ryan Blaney and Team Penske are in agreement on a new contract extension that will keep the veteran driver at the team for the long haul.

  • The team and Blaney announced the new deal early Wednesday morning. While the exact details are unknown, the team also noted that sponsor Menards has also signed a long-term extension of it’s own.
  • In a statement from the team, Blaney said that the support he gets from Penske is a key reason for his re-signing. “Roger’s commitment to me and my career has been something a race car driver could only dream of,” Blaney said.
  • Blaney is now the fourth driver this season to sign a new contract with their current team. So far, Carson Hocevar, Kyle Larson, and Tyler Reddick make up this group, with other drivers expected to join as the year rolls on.
  • The 32-year-old was one of the lesser-known drivers in a contract season this year. Still, per early reports, this Silly Season is expected to be one of the biggest yet, with nearly 20 drivers rumored to be on a contract season at the start of the year.
