What’s Happening?

A new Silly Season rumor suggests that a top Chevrolet prospect could move to full-time O’Reilly Auto Parts Series action in 2027.

While most NASCAR fans are focused on NASCAR Cup Series Silly Season, what happens in the Cup Series garage will eventually come to affect the O’Reilly Auto Parts and Truck Series garages.

One team that many NASCAR fans have an eye on is Richard Childress Racing.

Following the tragic passing of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch from an abrupt illness, the team called on veteran OAP Series driver Austin Hill to pilot the renumbered No. 33 for the rest of the season.

While there are plenty of rumors as to who could get that seat for 2027, such as Josh Berry or Noah Gragson, Hill, given his long-time relationship with the team and sponsorship, feels like a solid bet to take the car over for next year.

Still, that move, should RCR make it official, opens one seat within the team, the OAP Series No. 21 car.

Another seat is already open within the team’s legendary OAP Series program, the iconic No. 2, as Jesse Love moves to Ford and Wood Brothers Racing for the 2027 Cup Series season.

With both seats potentially open, fans are already asking who could take them over, and the rumor mill suggests that at least one of these two drivers may be no surprise at all.

What’s the Rumor?

Yesterday, a rumor posted by a well-known NASCAR rumor social account caught the attention of the online NASCAR community, claiming that RCR prospect Carson Brown is lined up for a full-time OAP Series promotion in 2027.

While the account did not point to which car Brown will drive, the No. 2 has a history of prospect development, and, at least as of right now, the No. 21 is yet to be officially vacant for 2027.

How Realistic is This Rumor?

While there are already enough wild theories in the NASCAR community surrounding the future of the No. 2 or No. 21 (as with any open seat), Brown seems like an easy lock for at least one of the potential two spots at RCR.

The 17-year-old signed with the team late last November, and while he has yet to race for RCR officially, he has taken his swings in the ARCA Menards Series with Pinnacle Racing Group.

So far, Brown has one win in his four part-time starts with the team, and has tacked on four top fives to boot.

Wednesday, Brown made waves in the NASCAR community when he tested an OAP Series car for RCR at North Wilkesboro, suggesting that a promotion to NASCAR’s second-highest level could be imminent.
