What’s Happening?
- For this list, we will break the series into four tiers. Tier one, of course, will consist of the week-in and week-out contenders, while tier four will consist of those trying to figure things out.
- To qualify for this list, teams must have one Chartered Entry in the NASCAR Cup Series. We will only highlight teams with Charters (and only those teams’ Chartered entries) in this tier list.
- In each section, the team listed first is the closest to dropping into the next lowest tier, while the last team listed is the most likely to head into the next tier in the future.

Tier Four – Rebuilding: Teams Trying to Get Rolling Again
Rick Ware Racing
Despite all the progress they made in 2024, Rick Ware Racing seems to be back on the ground floor for 2025. Their standout driver, Justin Haley, left before the seasons ended, and his replacement, Corey LaJoie, will not return to the team in a full-time role. Furthermore, they leased the No. 15 Charter to RFK Racing to field a third car for Ryan Preece in 2025. Now a single-car team, they opt for Rick Ware’s son Cody to drive the car in 2025.
Rick Ware Racing Announces 2025 Driver; LaJoie Officially Out
What’s Happening? Rick Ware Racing announced Wednesday afternoon that team owner Rick Ware’s son, Cody, will be the team’s full-time driver…
Hyak Motorsports
Hyak Motorsports underwent a moderate rebuild prior to 2025. The former JTG-Daughtery Racing is coming off its first-ever back-to-back seasons of winning by restructuring its ownership and rebranding. However, these are the only real differences the team will have this year, as Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. will return to the No. 47. Reinvigorated with a new coat of paint, expect Hyak to perform well on super speedways once again in 2025 but be quiet almost everywhere else.
What Led to JTG-Daughtery Racing’s Rebrand?
What’s Happening? Thursday, JTG-Daugherty Racing officially debuted its new name and ownership. As one of NASCAR’s longest-tenured single-car teams and most…
Wood Brothers Racing
The Wood Brothers, despite a win last season, are at their lowest point since their days of part-time racing in the late 2000s. In an early Silly Season swap, they’re going with short-track veteran Josh Berry to drive the No. 21 in 2025 as Harrison Burton returns to Xfinity Series action. Berry is handy at short tracks and has had a knack for adjusting as he gains more experience in NASCAR. Perhaps the team and driver can take a step towards consistency in 2025.
Three Underrated Silly Season Moves to Watch in 2025
What’s Happening? The 2025 NASCAR season is closer than ever, and most driver rosters for 2025 are complete. This allows us…
Tier Three – Just Missing the Cut: Already In Rebuild Mode
Legacy Motor Club
Legacy Motor Club is already in the middle of what is technically a rebuild; however, they are sticking with their 2024 driver lineup of Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek. Last year, the team’s first season with Toyota, was a disappointment. It will take a lot of work for this team to break new ground in 2025. However, it will be difficult to have a season as tough as they did in 2024.
Haas Factory Team
The remnants of Stewart-Haas Racing are merely the Charter for the No. 41 team and SHR’s 2023 and 2024 Xfinity Series driver, Cole Custer. Custer is not the driver he was when he left the Cup Series after the 2022 season. He is now an Xfinity Series Champion and was one of the Series best week in and week out the past two seasons. Whether the single-car team will be better than SHR was last season is in question. The team will have a deep relationship with RFK Racing, but how that will reflect on track is yet to be seen.
Haas Factory Team Will Have A Close Relationship With RFK Racing in 2025
What’s Happening? Tuesday, a Crew Chief at the Haas Factory Team confirmed the team will be a close partner with RFK…
Kaulig Racing
Kaulig Racing had an entire overhaul after a tough 2024 season. Not only is their Xfinity Series lineup entirely new, but their Cup Series lineup is as well. They have two veteran drivers, A.J. Allmendinger and Ty Dillon, racing full-time in the No. 16 and No. 10 this year. Both drivers are, by far, not long-term options; however, they could toe the line until Kaulig’s young talent is ready for the next level.
Why is Ty Norris Headed to Kaulig Racing?
What’s Happening? Kaulig Racing has added another piece to the 2025 puzzle. Ty Norris, a longtime NASCAR Executive, is heading to…
Spire Motorsports
Spire Motorsports is turning great strides in 2024 into a revamped lineup both in the car and on the pit box this season. Joining reigning Rookie of the Year Carson Hocevar is Cup Series veteran Justin Haley and longtime veteran Michael McDowell. McDowell is bringing along his Front Row Motorsport Crew Chief Travis Peterson to call the shots for him, and Haley will have former champion Crew Chief Rodney Childers on his box. The major question facing Spire in 2025 is whether they can take that next step into consistent winning contention.

What’s Happening? With less than two weeks until drivers take the green flag at Daytona for the 2025 NASCAR National Series…
Richard Childress Racing
Richard Childress Racing had a shockingly difficult 2024 season. While their Xfinity series team was as good as ever, their Cup series program struggled both on and off track. This included the rumors that Kyle Busch could leave prior to this season, alongside on-track drama when Austin Dillon wrecked Joey Logano with Denny Hamlin for the win at Richmond. RCR has a long way to go in 2025. However, they found their stride in the past and may be able to do so again.
Tier Two – The New Blood: Fresh Faces in a New Era of NASCAR
Front Row Motorsports
Front Row Motorsports not only has tier-one support from Ford, but they now have a brand new driver lineup consisting of young, experienced talent. FRM has former truck series champion Zane Smith returning to their ranks after a season abroad with Chevrolet. They also have signed former SHR driver and multi-time Xfinity Series winner Noah Gragson to race alongside their now-tenured driver, Todd Gilleland. FRM looks prime for a breakout at some point. Will 2025 be that year?
Zane Smith’s Odd Route Back to Front Row Motorsports for 2025
What’s Happening? Thursday morning, Front Row Motorsports announced that Zane Smith would drive the No. 38 for the team this season….
Trackhouse Racing
Trackhouse Racing struggled in early 2024 despite Daniel Suarez’s amazing win at Atlanta. However, Justin Mark’s team looks to a new era in 2025 with a new expansion team, the No. 88, driven by road course ace Shane van Gisbergen. Both of their drivers won at the Cup Series level last season, and van Gisbergen looks locked in for at least one road course win this season. Much like the other two teams at the top of this tier, it seems like a championship is next on Justin Mark’s checklist.
23XI Racing
23XI Racing is also expanding in 2025, with Rylee Herbst driving the new No. 35 Toyota. The team also brings back veteran driver Bubba Wallace with a new Crew Chief and tow. Once again, 2024 Championship contender Tyler Reddick will be back as well. Last season, 23XI came up one race shy of their first championship with Reddick. With new crew chiefs, new drivers, and a new car, perhaps this could be 23XI’s best year yet.
RFK Racing
RFK Racing is another team expanding in 2025. Brad Keselowski’s outfit is adding the number 60 with veteran Ryan Preece behind the wheel. Preece has yet to have a chance to prove himself with a quality team in his Cup Series career. RFK‘s turnaround since Keselowski joined the ownership group has been astonishing. They seem to be getting better every season, and perhaps with a third car on track, they can continue to do so in 2025.
Tier One – The Untouchables: Legends, Champions, and Legacy’s
Joe Gibbs Racing
Joe Gibbs Racing finds itself at the bottom of the top tier based on its new lineups’ lack of winning experience alone. The team is one new driver away from an entirely refreshed lineup for the first time in almost a decade. While Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin seem like locks for a win in 2025, Ty Gibbs and the team’s new driver, Chase Briscoe, have a lot to prove this season.
Is Denny Hamlin on the Hot Seat in 2025?
What’s Happening? Denny Hamlin is the second-longest active full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver entering the 2025 season. However, his offseason of…
Hendrick Motorsports
What’s there to say about Hendrick Motorsports? The team has one of its winningest lineups yet, solid prospects in Rajah Caruth and Cory Day, and another real chance to win a championship in 2025. But, the Next Gen Era has not been good for HMS as far as championships go. Nonetheless, week in and week out, they still seem like a race-winning organization.
Team Penske
Roger Penske’s team has become the model team in the NASCAR playoff era. Despite early-season struggles in 2024, the team ultimately put all three drivers in the playoffs and sent two back to Phoenix for a chance to win the championship. Like he always does, Joey Logano pulled through to walk away with Pike’s third championship in a row. In 2025, the team has a chance to do what very few teams have done. Win four in a row.
