What’s Happening?

NASCAR fans on Reddit were sent into a mini-frenzy when a rumor that Pitbull may sell his ownership of Trackhouse Racing. Is this happening, or is it only a rumor?

  • Trackhouse was founded before the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season, with Justin Marks and Pitbull functioning as co-owners. Pitbull has been involved with Trackhouse since the company expanded beyond just NASCAR. He was also slated to perform at the 2024 Daytona 500 pre-race show before the race was rained out, but he will return to perform at the 2025 Daytona 500.
  • Trackhouse has expanded significantly since its founding. From forming a Moto GP team to expanding beyond just a single car to Project 91 and various other ventures, Trackhouse has evolved from a race team to a global entertainment brand.
  • Trackhouse looks to get even bigger. Marc Lasry of Avenue Sports made what Randall Williams of Bloomberg called a “Sizeable” investment in Trackhouse. This is part of why speculation about Pitbull’s stake in Trackhouse ran rampant.

Everything We Know

To analyze this rumor, we have to trace it back to the source. The Reddit thread cites a Newsweek article, which got its information from a recent Essentially Sports article. It’s important to note that both articles simply list this as a “Rumor Mill” and neither makes a definitive claim that Pitbull leaving Trackhouse is actually happening.

That Essentially Sports article cited fans on Reddit, who speculated that Pitbull might be selling his stake in Trackhouse. While not explicitly stating what thread it was, this was the most recent thread regarding Pitbull from before the original article.

Reddit user Jax1288 claims that Justin Marks changed his profile to say he is an “Owner” at Trackhouse instead of being a “Co-Owner.” While there is no screenshot to show if or when there was a change, we can confirm that Marks does list himself as an “Owner/Founder,” not “Co-Owner” on his X account.

On the Trackhouse website’s About page, Pitbull is still listed as a “Strategic partner.” This seemingly confirms that Pitbull is still involved with the team, at least for now.

However, Essentially Sports, Newsweek, and Reddit users noted that Trackhouse has yet to sign Daniel Suarez. Why does this matter? Suarez and Pitbull have been involved with Trackhouse from the beginning, and some wonder if Suarez and/or Pitbull leaving could be related.

It’s important to note that Suarez has expressed optimism that he will return to Trackhouse in 2025. Multiple reports also indicate that he will return to the team. He had this to say to Bob Pockrass when asked in early June whether or not there would be a contract extension.

Yeah. I definitely think Trackhouse is the place to be. Honestly, today, I wouldn’t trade Trackhouse for any other team. It doesn’t matter if it’s Gibbs, Hendrick, whatever, I wouldn’t trade it. And the reason for that is for how the entire organization believe in each other and how they’ve given me the opportunity to grow the 99 team — those are things I didn’t have in the past. That, to me, can be the difference between being a good team or a great team. I’m not saying that we’re a great team just yet, but we have the potential to do it.

Daniel Suarez

There was also some speculation from Essentially Sports and Newsweek about whether or not the recent investment from Avenue Sports could precede an ownership change. However, this remains speculation, and there’s no confirmation that it’s in any way related to anything Pitbull could or will do with the team.

In short, could Pitbull end up leaving Trackhouse? Maybe, but this is nothing more than a rumor that traces his basic roots back to a Reddit thread. It may be true, or it may not be true, but no one is definitively saying that it absolutely is happening. It’s also worth noting that no major NASCAR reporters like Bob Pockrass, Jeff Gluck, Jordan Bianchi, or Adam Stern have commented on this either.

As of right now, Pitbull is still on Trackhouse’s website, as we linked above, and Trackhouse is still listed on Pitbull’s personal website. If anything can or will happen, it doesn’t seem that anything has become official or that an announcement is imminent.
