What’s Happening?
Shortly after the truck race at Bristol concluded, Stewart Friesen confronted Nick Sanchez on pit road, where the two had a heated argument about what took place during the Weather Guard Truck Race. Things escalated when Friesen grabbed onto Sanchez’s collar and the two nearly exchanged fists before crew members separated them from one another.
The On-Track Incident
With 32 laps to go in the race, Sanchez moved to Friesen’s outside with a run from the top line. Friesen tried to close the door on the Daytona winner, but Sanchez carried too much momentum, causing Friesen to turn off of the left front of Sanchez’s Silverado. Both drivers sustained damage to their trucks, derailing their nights as both finished outside the top 10 (Sanchez finished 17th while Friesen finished 22nd).
After the race, Friesen wasted no time tracking Sanchez down as he immediately grabbed Sanchez, with two crew members in the middle to avoid escalation. There the heated discussion took place before both were separated after Friesen grabbed Sanchez once again.
The Aftermath
Both drivers left Bristol with bent sheet metal and high tempers. While no official fight took place, this will be a rivalry to keep an eye on for the rest of the season. Sanchez won the season-opening race at Daytona and sits sixth in the truck series standings while Friesen remains winless in the early season, sitting 13th in the points.
Who is at fault for the wreck? Did Friesen squeeze Sanchez or did Sanchez try going for a gap that wasn’t there?
