What’s Happening?
Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports reports that NASCAR is taking its wet-weather tires to a brand-new venue. According to Pockrass, Homestead-Miami Speedway will host a wet-weather tire test in mid-September, but NASCAR did not say it would use the technology this year.
- Homestead-Miami Speedway will be the largest track yet to see NASCAR test wet-weather tires. NASCAR has previously shied away from using these tires on larger ovals. However, they did test the tires on the high banks at Bristol this year, so maybe NASCAR is ready to use them on larger tracks.
- NASCAR uses wet-weather tires in damp/drying conditions on short ovals. They were used for the first time in a points race this spring at Richmond.
- Fans are intrigued by this news. Finally, NASCAR is looking at using these tires on bigger race tracks, but, when it will happen, if at all, is still uncertain.
