What’s Happening?

23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports have motioned to dismiss their ongoing pursuit of important financial documents from Liberty Media, the owner of Formula One, as part of the two teams’ ongoing lawsuit with NASCAR.

  • It is unclear why the two teams have dropped the motion to compel compliance with subpoenas filed for revenue-sharing information from F1 and multiple other major sports leagues. Some reports suggest that the teams have either settled or outright terminated the motion.
  • Furthermore, the teams are still pursuing their other motions to compel compliance with subpoenas to other leagues, including the NTT IndyCar Series, NFL, NHL, and NBA, in the two teams’ claim that this information, surrounding team payouts and league revenue sharing, is vital in their legal battle with NASCAR.
  • With this information, the teams claimed they would “perform a yardstick comparison between the other major professional sports leagues (where competition is not precluded) and NASCAR.” The NFL recently claimed that the information pursued by the teams is not even available to its teams.
  • These subpoenas are a small part of the ongoing discovery process in the two teams’ Oct. 2 antitrust lawsuit filed against NASCAR. We have covered this lawsuit extensively via the link below.
