What’s Happening?
Amid questions about the reasoning behind a $50,000 fine levied against Carson Hocevar, NASCAR has released footage of the incident that led to the fine.
NASCAR SLAMS Carson Hocevar With $50,000 Penalty For Behavior
What’s Happening? NASCAR has levied a $50,000 behavioral infraction on Spire Motorsports’ driver, Carson Hocevar, following an on-track incident at Kansas…
Wednesday afternoon, NASCAR announced that it had fined NASCAR Cup Series driver Carson Hocevar $50,000 for what they deemed a behavioral infraction.
This came as a surprise to many, as there had been no indication prior to this release that Hocevar had done anything wrong, nor that this penalty was forthcoming. However, a report from NASCAR.com explained that this resulted from Hocevar’s actions following a spin during the later portions of Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway.
On lap 273 of the Hollywood Casino 400, Hocevar spun on the backstretch, flattening all four of his tires in the process. Following this spin, Hocevar had trouble getting going, and NASCAR.com claims he “revved and spun his tires in an attempt to rejoin the field while those safety workers attended to his car.”
At the time, fans and industry members had questioned this penalty, as USA Network failed to show the No. 77 leaving the accident beyond a short clip of the AMR Safety Team arriving at the initial spot of the crash.

However, thanks to NASCAR, we have a clear view of what happened.
The Footage
In-car cameras on HBO Max showed Hocevar driving away, seemingly with a push from the safety crew, as he would not have been returned to pit road if he had been towed.
But the No. 77 stopped in the middle of turns three and four, with the car then being hooked up to the tow truck, with Hocevar exclaiming, “They’re going to DVP, this is fucking stupid.”
Although Hocevar was heated at the time, it was unclear when or even if this incident occurred. However, on Thursday morning, NASCAR Communications came forward with footage of the incident, which they posted to X.

This video clearly shows Hocevar spinning his tires while NASCAR officials attempted to hook up his No. 77, thus certifying NASCAR’s penalty.
