What’s Happening?

Prime Video, which is set to debut its coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series this weekend, announced Monday afternoon that it will have “end-to-end live coverage of green flag racing” during its five-race coverage.

In a press release, AMAZON MGM Studios claims that Prime Video will only utilize a double-box commercial format during its slate of NASCAR Cup Series races. The streaming service claims this will ensure that “viewers never miss a moment of action.” This double-box format could be similar to or even improve on the one currently used by FOX and NBC.

In a similar move, on Feb. 18, FOX Sports announced it would limit full-screen ads during its slate of races. However, this came with the caveat that races on the main FOX network would have a side-by-side format during green flag racing, while races on FS1 would have “occasional” full-screen ads.

Prime Video seems to be taking this to new heights, promising fans, “end-to-end live coverage of green flag racing.” This decision by one of NASCAR’s newest broadcast partners is already popular amongst the online NASCAR community.

Other News on Prime Video’s Coverage

Prime will be the first streaming service to exclusively carry NASCAR Cup Series races in 2025. As part of its preparation for coverage, Prime has made several wise decisions to gain fan support.

For example, in another popular move, the streaming service has confirmed it will not have ‘remote’ or off-site broadcasts. Remote broadcasts are occasionally utilized for NASCAR Xfinity and Truck Series broadcasts and are wildly unpopular with fans.

Prime Video’s coverage will also have a Key Moments feature, which will provide viewers with a “bank of pivotal moments built as the race progresses, offering viewers immediate access to these key moments.” This is similar to Prime Video’s Rapid Recap feature, which will also be available to viewers tuning into the race late.

Prime Video takes over exclusive coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series for this Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600. Their coverage extends to June 22, after which, TNT Sports takes over for five races of their own. They will also have exclusive coverage of Cup Series Practice and Qualifying for the next five races.
