What’s Happening?
FOX is planning to continue emphasizing the use of its side-by-side ad presentation throughout its coverage of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Season. The network heavily utilized these during green flag racing at the 2025 Daytona 500. Here’s what you need to know.
.@FoxSports plans to continue only using double-box ads during green flag racing for @FoxTV's NASCAR Cup races; @FS1 events will have some full-screen ads but it's expected to still have a significant increase in the number of double-box ad breaks vs. '24. https://t.co/ijJlJhTTKJ

- According to Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal, the remaining three races on the main FOX network, Atlanta, COTA, and Talladega, will only use the side-by-side format during green flag racing. Races on FS1 will occasionally have full-screen ads during green flag racing, but this should be at a lesser rate than in the past.
- Side-by-side is exactly what it sounds like: The network shrinks the broadcast down to a smaller frame and places a moderately sized commercial or commercials next to the racing. During this, the scoring pylon sometimes remains on screen. This ensures that fans, and more importantly, the network, do not miss any on-track action.
- NASCAR fans have often complained about the heavy amount of ads during races, especially with FOX, which seems to take commercials right before any crashes. FOX implemented a heavy emphasis on side-by-sides at Daytona Sunday.
- According to Cindy Yen, the 2025 Daytona 500 had 35 minutes of side-by-side ads, up from 11 minutes in 2024. Most fans feel this increase is long overdue, while this is for green flag only coverage, that is perhaps as good as it can get.
