What’s Happening?
NASCAR and Words + Pictures announced that they will release another season of their Netflix show, NASCAR Full Speed. Furthermore, the two are expanding both operations on a production partnership known as Full Speed Entertainment.
- NASCAR Full Speed was NASCAR recent venture into the “NFL Hardknocks” or “F1: Drive to Survive” sports reality TV market. The five-episode series highlights the 2023 NASCAR Playoffs and selected drivers that made up the field of drivers.
- The show was well-received by fans, and unexpected stars developed in the form of 23XI Racing’s cast of drivers and Crew Chief Bootie Barker. Fans also enjoyed a deeper and personal look into their favorite drivers and owners fighting for the 2023 Championship.
- Words + Pictures produced the show with help from NASCAR. According to a press release from NASCAR, the new partnership between Words + Pictures and NASCAR Studios will focus on “a wide swath of premium racing content, ranging from documentaries, series, and special events to studio shows, podcasts, and more.”
- Most notably, the teams participating in season two are unknown. Prior to the signing of the new NASCAR Charter Agreement, there were rumors that some teams could hold out on season two. In turn, with 23XI not signing that agreement, perhaps the stars of season one will not return.
- Season two of NASCAR Full Speed will be released in 2025, but there is no official date yet. Netflix released season one on Jan. 30, so perhaps around the same time of year.
In a statement from NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer Tim Clark said:
“Early into the Full Speed process, I knew we wanted to find more ways to collaborate and capitalize on new opportunities for NASCAR as cultural demand for compelling sports stories continues to grow. Words + Pictures is the premier storyteller in the sports content space, and Connor’s team excels in not just generating big ideas and visions, but executing them in ways that captivate big audiences.” — Tim Clark
