What’s Happening?
One of the most significant sponsors of the NASCAR Chicago Street race, McDonald’s, will not return to sponsor the race in 2025. However, this does not mean that McDonald’s is entirely done with NASCAR.
- NASCAR contract with the city of Chicago for the Chicago Street Circuit ends after this year’s race on July 6th. The race debuted in 2023, and McDonalds heavily sponsored it.
- Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal first reported this departure on Friday afternoon. The deal was reportedly worth around $2 Million annually. Through the deal McDonald’s was promoted both at the track, on the radio, and on TV.
- This deal was not for the race title, with NASCAR opting for “Grant Park 165” rather than a sponsored name. Rather, McDonald’s is part of a group of “Founding Partners,” including ABB, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, and Xfinity.
- McDonald’s has a long history of sponsoring NASCAR, mostly on cars. Since its founding in 2021, they have been a key sponsor of former McDonald’s spokesman Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing.
- While the Chicago-based corporation is leaving the Chicago Street Race, it does not appear they are leaving NASCAR altogether, as they are part of the 23XI Racing Website’s updated Partners Page for 2025.
