What’s Happening?

Matt DiBenedetto and Don Sackett, CEO of Sci Aps Inc. and Viking Motorsports, told Stephen Stumpf of Fronstretch on Wednesday that DiBenedetto will make multiple Xfinity Series starts in the Viking Motorsports #38 car. Sackett said that DiBenedetto is scheduled to compete at Richmond (March 30th), Martinsville (April 6th), Texas (April 13th), Talladega (April 20th), and Dover (April 27th). It is possible DiBenedetto could compete in more races as Sackett plans to run all ovals aside from both Darlington races.

  • This move ends a long saga of free agency for Matt DiBenedetto. It started with an ugly exit from Rackley W.A.R. before the 2023 Truck Series season ended, and it included a major sponsorship deal that fell through. DiBenedetto is set to make his first Xfinity Series start since 2019, where he started on the front row and led 18 laps before crashing out at Road America.
  • Viking Motorsports is new to the Xfinity Series for 2024. They have fielded the #38 car in collaboration with RSS Racing for each of the first four races in 2024, but, they failed to qualify with C.J. McLaughlin driving for them at Daytona and Phoenix. Don Sackett’s other company, Sci Aps, is sponsoring Ryan Sieg’s #39 RSS Racing car for the full 2024 season.
  • Fans are excited to see DiBenedetto finally get a ride. He was without a ride for so long, and he finally will be back in NASCAR for at least 5 races and maybe more.
