What’s Happening?
News coming out of Talladega reveals that Ford drivers, Joey Logano and Ryan Preece, have failed post-race inspection. The reasons why they failed are detailed below. In any case, both teams have been disqualified and are officially credited with 38th and 39th place finishes respectively.
- In the case of Ryan Preece’s number 60 car, the specific rule violated is 14.5.8F, which concerns the spoiler. Per Bob Pockrass, the RFK Ford had too many spoiler shims. Two is the standard. They had three installed, which gave them an advantage in the draft.
- On the other hand, Joey Logano’s team violated rule 14.5.8E, which also pertains to the spoiler. In Team Penske’s case, however, Logano’s car was found to be missing a spoiler bolt.
Meanwhile, Logano’s teammate Austin Cindric managed to pass inspection and is the official winner of the race. Ryan Preece joins his RFK teammates in the back of the running order to conclude a disastrous weekend for the team. Larson’s, Dillon’s, Berry’s, and Wallace’s cars will all be taken to the R&D Center this week in Charlotte for further inspection.
Whether or not Team Penske or RFK intends to appeal remains to be seen. We’ll provide updates as soon as they become available.
Austin Cindric's car has passed tech and he is the winner. Second-place finisher Preece (too many spoiler shims – three instead of two) and fifth-place finisher Logano (missing a spoiler bolt) have been disqualified. https://t.co/FXF68bxr42
