What’s Happening?

Lionel Racing is making major, long-requested changes to the production of NASCAR diecast effective immediately. These changes include a lower minimum quantity order for 1:64-scale diecast and overall changes to production quality.

  • According to Lionel Racing, the minimum quantity order for a 1:64-scale diecast is now 1,500. This decrease will likely result in the production of a broader selection of 1:64-scale diecasts and a decrease in DNP or “Did Not Produce” models, something that collectors have seen more and more in recent years.
  • Furthermore, all 1:64-scale diecasts, those made available for pre-order starting Friday, will feature a diecast metal chassis and rubber wheels. This is another long-requested change from NASCAR fans and will come at no additional cost to the established 1:64-scale diecast price. This change will only apply to cars posted for pre-order on June 20 and onward.
  • These production quality changes will only affect the ARC line of 1:64 scale diecast and not the NASCAR Authentics line available in retail stores. In the past, diecast collectors and NASCAR fans have often claimed that there is little difference between the two, and this change seemingly fixes that issue.
  • Though these new features come at no additional cost to the consumer, due to tariffs placed on goods imported from China, NASCAR diecast models have seen slight price increases in 2025. For example, the price of a 1:64 scale diecast rose from $10.99 in February to $11.75 now.
