What’s Happening?

Lionel Racing has officially adjusted the pricing of NASCAR die-cast, received after Mar. 7, to reflect the 30% tariff of goods imported from China.

  • Per this model, diecasts produced after Mar. 7 are now priced by the new 30% tariff on goods from China. Furthermore, diecasts ordered before May 13, the date Lionel announced it had reopened pre-orders for NASCAR diecasts, retain their 20% tariff surcharge.
  • With the new 30% tariff, the suggested MSRP for a 1:64-scale diecast, which once cost $10.99, is now $11.75. Meanwhile, a 1:24-scale Elite Race Win, once $125, now costs $135.
  • Since the implementation of the tariffs, Lionel has seen a back-and-forth flow of prices. This began on Mar. 28 when they announced a 5% ‘Tariff Surcharge.’ That quickly changed throughout April, and ultimately, Lionel confirmed a “halt in pre-order offers” on Apr. 28.
  • However, when the Trump administration announced a 90-day reduction in tariffs placed on Chinese imports, Lionel announced it had reopened pre-orders on May 13.
