Legacy Motor Club Eyes Third Entry for 2026

What’s Happening?

Jimmie Johnson appeared on the Never Settle Podcast this week, hosted by Marty Smith, to drop some bombshell news in regards to the future of Legacy Motor Club. It was speculated for some time that LMC was looking to expand the three full-time cars. With LMC’s recent upturn in performance, it would make sense for the team to want to expand. Well, Jimmie Johnson made his intentions clear this week:

It’s our intentions and ambitions to put a third car on the grid in 2026. Worst case scenario, ’27 but we’re working hard to make ’26 happen.

• It has long been a rumor that Jimmie Johnson wanted to expand his Legacy Motor Club team. Currently, the team is wrapped up in a lawsuit with Rick Ware Racing. This is due to the team allegedly securing a deal to purchase one of RWR’s charters. Meanwhile, Rick Ware Racing denies those claims.
• When it comes to potential drivers for this third entry, Jimmie Johnson mentioned Connor Zilisch and Jesse Love specifically. Though he also said that there are several Cup drivers in under-developed teams that could also be in consideration.
• Though they were off to a rocky start when JJ joined the fold, LMC has shown dramatic improvement in performance in near the halfway point of this year. Both Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek have displayed top 5 speed at times during this summer stretch. This is a positive sign for the future of this organization as it eyes expansion in the near future.
