Though many thought it was a foregone conclusion that Kimi Raikkonen would drive for Trackhouse's Project91, Kimi hasn't commented on the potential. Until now.

What’s Happening?

Raikkonen posted a tease on Instagram that he would be racing for Trackhouse. He quickly deleted it, but not before NASCAR Reddit grabbed a screenshot.

What You Need to Know:

  • The former Formula 1 driver has been associated with Justin Marks’ Project91 since its inception.
  • Marks even said the seat was Kimi’s until Kimi said no.
  • While many fans expected the announcement, Raikkonen had been silent on the topic of late.

Main Characters

Moments after the story was written, Trackhouse made it official.

Via Trackhouse’s official release:

“I had a fantastic time in NASCAR,” said Räikkönen. “There was a lot to learn in a very short amount of time, but everyone was very helpful, the competition was a big challenge. This time I get to race on a track I am familiar with so there won’t be as steep of a learning curve. I want to have fun, but also do as well as we can.”

Team owner Justin Marks added:

“When we announced Kimi last year I said he was the global superstar I had in mind when we created PROJECT91. I think you saw the fan reception across the world and Kimi’s performance in the car was proof of the concept. Kimi’s following is massive and it’s great for NASCAR, Trackhouse plus I think Kimi really enjoys our racing.”

Around the Garage

Competitor Conor Daly relished in some irony and excitement over sharing the track with The Iceman.

In the Stands

Even though the post has since been deleted, fans celebrated “The Iceman’s” return.

Reddit hype was real as fans discussed the potential battles with the return of the “road course ringers”.

Oh the possibilities. COTA will be a race to watch, if nothing else than for the personalities. Fans shouldn’t forget Conor Daly will also be in the race.

After Trackhouse made it official, fans continued their support, but Justin Clark saw something most didn’t.

Many on Twitter joined in the celebration.

While fans rejoiced at the news despite it not being a surprise. Brett Griffin and Freddie Kraft teased something else. What does Couch Racer know?

From the Pressbox

Matt Weaver voiced his excitement for the ringers.

Donut Racing Show’s Alanis King thought of all the possibilities for entertainment with Kimi.

Marks has previously said the ride is Kimi’s “unitl he tells me otherwise.”
