What’s Happening?
Wednesday, Netflix finally released the trailer for the second season of its NASCAR reality documentary NASCAR: Full Speed. So, what are some key takeaways from the show’s latest trailer?
Dale Jr. and Marty Smith Return to Their Season One Roles
This action-packed trailer gave fans a taste of what to expect in the second season of the hit show. Aside from the action, two individuals who made notable appearances in the trailer were long-time friends and current members of NASCAR media, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Marty Smith.
Earnhardt, who played a major role in season one of the show, needs no introduction. His use in season one gave NASCAR: Full Speed a heightened sense of legitimacy. While Earnhardt’s inclusion was not a shock, the inclusion of Marty Smith, who currently works for ESPN, in season one was a welcome surprise to fans.
Smith, a long-time fan-favorite member of the NASCAR media, has rarely been seen around the sport since ESPN departed from NASCAR after the 2014 season. His presence and insight, much like Earnhardt’s, were welcomed in season one of NASCAR: Full Speed, and fans will be glad to see the duo back in this same role for season two.
The Big Players
Last season, NASCAR Full Speed focused on a handful of 2023 championship hopefuls, such as Bubba Wallace, Ross Chastain, Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick, and William Byron. Season one gave insight into the pressure of the NASCAR Playoffs and a behind-the-scenes personal look at these driver’s families and personalities.
The season two trailer gives us a hint at who we could see featured in the show. Possible drivers included in the trailer are Chase Briscoe, Christopher Bell, Daniel Suarez, Joey Logano, and Ryan Blaney.
For those keeping up with news about the show in recent months, Suarez is no Surprise. During a Feb. 26 press conference in Mexico, a season two teaser trailer covering Suarez, who made the 2024 playoffs thanks to his dramatic win in Atlanta, also featured in the most recent season two trailer.

Bell’s Side of the Martinsville Fiasco
The most anticipated moment of the coming season of NASCAR Full Speed is the behind-the-scenes look at the finish of the 2024 Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway. For a show focused on the drama of the NASCAR Playoffs, this one race and its aftermath supplied enough drama to perhaps make a solo feature-length documentary.
In the closing laps of this race, the cut-off for the Championship Four at Phoenix, with Ryan Blaney pulling away, the last transfer spot was coming down to two legitimate contenders, William Byron and Christopher Bell. While two Chevrolets ran a blockade protecting Byron’s spot on the track, Bell, needing to gain a spot, passed a suspiciously slowed Toyota of Bubba Wallace.
However, while most thought Bell was locked in, the No. 20 momentarily rode the wall out of turn four, and the resulting penalty put Byron in the Championship Four. These actions resulted in long-term drama about the playoff system, team orders, and safety rules, alongside major penalties, suspensions, and fines from NASCAR.
From this trailer, it looks like we will get the perspective of Bell and his wife, Morgan, on that night’s drama. This has a chance to be the best episode of the show to date and will be one to watch when the show drops on May 7.
