- In 1996, Michael Waltrip, then in his first season driving for Wood Brothers Racing, was one of five drivers in the Open to transfer into the All-Star Race, then called The Winston Select. Despite his fifth-place finish in the open, Waltrip’s Thunderbird roared to life late in the main event, only leading 11 laps en route to the win.
- This paint scheme will pay tribute to the iconic Citgo Thunderbird Waltrip piloted that evening at Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, unlike Waltrip, Berry will have a much easier pursuit, as the short track ace has already qualified for the 2025 All-Star Race after his win at Las Vegas.
- So far this season, Berry and WBR have put together consistent, solid runs early on. Though they have struggled as of late, the No. 21 team looks new and improved for the first time in several seasons.
- This paint scheme is part of a year of celebration for WBR, NASCAR’s oldest team, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary in the sport. The team did not run a true throwback during the 2025 throwback weekend, opting to run a tribute to Jim Clark’s 1965 Indianapolis 500-winning Lotus.
