What’s Happening?
NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson is once again taking on a part-time NASCAR schedule in 2026, including his first Truck Series race in nearly a decade. Here’s everything you need to know.
- Since his full-time NASCAR Cup Series retirement in 2020, Johnson has not stopped racing by any means. After a part-time, turned full-time, stint in the NTT IndyCar Series in 2021 and 2022, Johnson returned to NASCAR as a part-owner and part-time driver for Legacy Motor Club.
- Despite a four, turned three, race schedule in 2023, plans have changed for Johnsons over the past few seasons, expanding to nine Cup Series starts in 2024, and back down to two in 2025. However, his schedule isn’t the only thing changing, as he is now the majority owner of LMC.
- Each season, Johnson has entered the Daytona 500 (something he will do again in 2026) and races that mean something to him, such as Charlotte, Texas (both tracks he dominated in his prime), and in 2025, San Diego’s Street Circuit at Naval Base Coronado, a sort of “home game” for the SoCal native.
- Though he has not confirmed such plans, as of press time, there are rumors that Johnson could attempt more Cup Series races and more Truck Series races to complement his return to the series for the first time since 2008.
- This article will be updated as Johnson/LMC or TRICON announces more races for his 2026 schedule.
