What’s Happening?

The National Motorsports Appeals Panel has upheld NASCAR’s post-race disqualification of Rockingham winner Jesse Love and Richard Childress Racing.

During post-race inspection, NASCAR officials found that the mating surfaces between the car’s truck trailing arms and u-bolt saddle were not in contact. RCR announced its intention to appeal the disqualification on Monday afternoon.

The NMPA explained its ruling in a statement, saying that it “finds that it is more likely than not that there was a violation.” However, while the panel confirmed that the saddle and arm were not in contact, they also clarified that the panel was “unable to determine whether the violation was intentional or unintentional.”

In a statement released by RCR, the team said, “RCR is disappointed in NASCAR’s decision today to uphold the disqualification of the No. 2 team. We will focus our efforts on moving forward and being competitive at Talladega this weekend.”

Love’s Disqualification

In 2019, NASCAR changed its DQ policy to strip the race winner who fails post-race inspection of their win. This is the second time this season (sixth since 2019) that a driver has had a win stripped via disqualification.

In February, Parker Kligerman had his season-opening Truck Series win stripped after failing to meet post-race height requirements.

Love had one of the best cars Saturday afternoon at Rockingham; alongside the win, he led 53 laps and scored the Xfinity Fastest Lap bonus point prior to disqualification. Following his disqualification, JR Motorsports’ Sammy Smith was awarded the win, while RSS Racing’s Ryan Sieg took home the fastest lap bonus point.

Despite this disqualification, Love is already locked into the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs thanks to his win at Daytona earlier this season. The 20-year-old also enters Talladega this weekend as the defending race winner.
