What’s Happening?

NASCAR announced that Bristol Dirt is no more in 2024. Bristol Motor Speedway will have two race dates in 2024, and both of those dates will be on the 0.533-mile concrete track. NASCAR has not yet announced the race dates for 2024 according to Bob Pockrass.

You Need to Know:

  • It’s safe to say that Bristol Dirt has been a controversial race ever since it was introduced in 2021. Some people said that NASCAR has no place racing on dirt period, but others claim that NASCAR can race on dirt just not at Bristol. NASCAR did not state whether or not there would be a dirt race in the series at another location in 2024. However, there is also no certainty on where in the calendar the Bristol dates will fall in 2024.
  • This also puts to bed speculation about Bristol’s spring date being taken away for 2024. Many suggested that Bristol’s spring date may be dropped in favor of a points race at North Wilkesboro or another track on the schedule. With Bristol officially getting two race dates once again in 2024, North Wilkesboro’s path to a points date seems much less clear, and it seems likely that if North Wilkesboro is on the 2024 schedule, it will be as the All-Star Race once again.
  • Fans’ opinion on this is very split on this decision. Some fans are excited to see the spring date at Bristol return to the concrete just like it traditionally has always been. However, others enjoyed the race on dirt and they were sad to see the dirt race go.
