What’s Happening?

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to the CW Network in 2025. Here is everything you need to know about NASCAR’s top developmental series’ new home.

  • The CW will join the NASCAR Media landscape full-time in 2025. As part of the new media rights deal, the CW joins Amazon Prime, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, and Amazon Prime to broadcast NASCAR’s future.
  • However, unlike the previous channels, the CW will take over full rights to all Xfinity Series races in 2025. Next year will be the first season a single entity will cover the Xfinity Series since ESPN did so in 2014.
  • While the CW takes over next year, they also nabbed the final seven races of the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. This schedule includes the entire NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs, with help from NBC, including Rick Allen, Jeff Burton, and Steven Letarte in the booth.

What is the CW?

The CW began in September 2006 as part of a merger between The WB and UPN. It is one of five major broadcast networks in the United States and, according to its website, “is available to 100% of US television households.”

In the past decade, the CW has gained a reputation for its highly praised programming, such as The Vampire Diaries and the DC Comics TV shows.

More notably for NASCAR fans, the CW has become committed to sports programming with the launch of CW Sports programming after Nexstar Media bought a majority share in the network.

This programming includes NFL shows, golf, ACC and PAC-12 college athletics, and professional wrestling. The Xfinity Series will benefit from the CW’s viewer accessibility compared to former channels FS1, the ill-fated NBC Sports, and USA Network.

How do I watch the CW?

The best part about the CW is that it is completely free. You can watch it with just an antenna at home or with cable or YouTube TV.

NASCAR fans can find the CW using the CW Channel Locator by entering their zip code. This locator supplies you with the antenna station and any available cable, dish, or streaming channels it would be on.

If you can’t watch the race on TV or are on the go, the CW App streams all of its sports for free one day after the event. The app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

What will NASCAR on the CW be like?

We won’t know much until their first race at Bristol this year. Even after the Playoffs, they could roll out a new graphics package and theme to the broadcasts for 2025.

For college athletics, the CW uses a very sleek-looking graphics package. Since the races this season correlate with NBC, we could see a modified version of NBC’s graphics for the network’s first seven races.

Another unknown for 2025 is who will be in the CW booth. While NBC talent is in the booth this season, it could change before 2025, with the CW using an in-house team.

Rick Allen is a possibility, as he will be out of the Cup Series booth at NBC for the foreseeable future.

Notably, the CW will have a pre-race show, NASCAR COUNTDOWN, which has was already announced for this year. The pre-race show will return next year at all races and will run from 30 minutes to one hour, depending on the race. NASCAR COUNTDOWN’s hosts and analysts are still unknown for next year.

The CW is an exciting new adventure for NASCAR. For the first time, an entire race season will be broadcast live for free to every household in America.
