What’s Happening?

IRacing is set to release a brand new NASCAR console video game in 2025, but it took a handsome sum to put it into motion. As first pointed out by Mike Straw, iRacing’s earnings report states that they paid Motorsport Games an initial $5 million for the NASCAR license with two $500k payments coming in 2024, meaning the NASCAR license cost $6 million. According to Zippia.com, iRacing had $6.1 million in revenue in 2023.

  • iRacing and NASCAR jointly announced the sale of the NASCAR license in October of 2023. This came after over a year of speculation regarding the previous holder of the license, Motorsport Games, who said in their 2nd Quarter 2023 earnings report that they were looking at selling the license.
  • The exact release date of the next NASCAR video game is still unknown. Very little information has been released on the game itself aside from its targeted release year, the game engine (Unreal), and the developer (Monster Games).
  • Fans were curious to see how much the license ultimately cost. However, fans are most interested in how the next video game works and functions, which we don’t know a lot about yet.
