What’s Happening?
Cleetus McFarland’s second ARCA start looked nothing like his debut at Rockingham. Starting from the back at Nashville, Cleetus showed far more confidence, raced side-by-side, made several clean passes, and looked much more comfortable pushing the car to its limits. The race still featured rookie mistakes and some costly setbacks, but there were enough flashes of speed and racecraft to suggest his learning curve may be moving faster than many expected.
- How impressive was Cleetus’ ability to work through traffic early in the race while staying within the limits of his car and avoiding major mistakes?
- Did his battle with the No. 42 reveal both the strengths and weaknesses of his current racecraft, showing good instincts but a lack of experience in dirty air situations?
- How much did an untimely pit road penalty and subsequent spin change the entire outcome of what was shaping up to be a promising run?
- Could Nashville prove that Cleetus has the raw driving talent to become a legitimately competitive ARCA driver rather than just a popular guest attraction?
Despite finishing deeper in the field than his speed suggested, the biggest takeaway from this video is how much progress Cleetus made in only his second start. From clean passes to his ability to adapt throughout the race, there were several moments that highlighted his potential. The mistakes were costly, but they were also the kind that come with experience, and this performance offered plenty of reasons for optimism moving forward.
