What’s Happening?

Hendrick Motorsports will enter a car in 16 NASCAR Xfinity Series races throughout the 2025 season. The No. 17, which HMS typically uses as an all-star car for its Cup Series drivers, will be piloted by HMS’ top prospect, Corey Day, in a majority of races.

  • In total, HMS Cup Series drivers will start six races in the No. 17. The car’s Cup lineup looks like this: Alex Bowman and Chase Elliot will race in one race, and Kyle Larson and William Byron will race in two races.
  • William Byron will debut the car at Circuit of the Americas on Mar. 1; Byron will also be the last Cup Series driver to drive the car on May 24 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Following this, dirt racing prodigy Corey Day will drive the car in its final eight scheduled race dates.
  • Day will make a total of ten starts in the No. 17, with his series debut happening at Martinsville Speedway on Mar. 29. HMS announced they had signed the 19-year-old on Jan. 9. In 2025, he will compete in multiple races across multiple series, including two of NASCAR’s top three divisions.
  • This is the third year in a row that No. 17 has expanded its race schedule. HMS first entered the car in 2022, where it started four races, then six in 2023, and ten in 2024. The car scored its first win last season with Kyle Larson at COTA.
