What’s Happening?

Live TV Streaming provider YouTube TV has announced a “short-term extension” with FOX, ending fears that the network and its stations could be removed from the platform this week.

  • Monday, YouTube TV announced that FOX and its channels, FOX News, FOX, and FOX Sports 1, could be off the platform by Thursday if they did not come to a renewal. With this extension, this is put on hold while the two parties continue to “work on a new agreement.”
  • This was a major news story on Monday for multiple reasons. Perhaps chief among these was the potential loss of FOX and FOX Sports 1, as Week one of the 2026 College Football Season was set to kick off this weekend, and, for Race fans, as round one of the Craftsman Truck Series playoffs gets underway at Darlington.
  • All seven races of the 2026 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Playoffs will be live on FS1. For YouTube TV subscribers, should the provider lose FOX, there are alternatives, such as listening to the radio broadcasts of the races live via the NASCAR app or website.
  • While this short-term extension is good news, the two sides seemed to be at odds Monday, with FOX saying in a fiery statement to Front Office Sports, “Google continually exploits its outsized influence by proposing terms that are out of step with the marketplace.” Though this short-term extension is a good thing, there is no indication that the two sides have made significant ground.
