What’s Happening?
Chevrolet is the second NASCAR OEM to have a prototype NASCAR EV. Much like the Ford Mustang Mach E revealed in late January, Chevy’s prototype uses a modified NASCAR Next Gen Car chassis.

- The model utilized is a Chevrolet Blazer, one of Chevy’s production Electric Cars. This makes the prototype a true “race on Sunday, buy on Monday” type of race car. It follows the same “crossover” styler body that the NSACAR EV prototype had, with the hatchback style and massive wing.
- NASCAR’s July 2024 press release about the EV states, “Anchored by a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery, the tunable powertrain can produce 1,000 kW at peak power.” The Ford prototype has a 78-kWh battery, and presumably, the Blazer prototype does as well.
- Ford’s prototype, which uses the Mustang Mach E, another electric production crossover, was flanked by NASCAR veteran David Ragan when it was revealed at Ford Performance’s 2025 Season Launch on Jan. 30. According to Chevrolet, 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Justin Allgaier tested the Chevrolet prototype at Carolina Motorsports Park.
- NASCAR Unveiled its Electric crossover race car prototype at the 2024 Chicago Street Race. As of right now, there is no set plan for an EV race series. However, OEMs revealing their prototypes feels like the next step in that direction.
- Consumer models of a Mustang Mach E and Blazer were present at the unveiling of NASCAR’s EV race car in Chicago, alongside a Toyota bZ4X. When Toyota unveils its prototype, it may be the bZ4X.
