What’s Happening?
In 2024, Joe Gibbs Racing lost its long-time sponsor, FedEx, at the end of the season. However, some fans think that the team’s website suggests that they may have lost another major sponsor of the No. 11.
Not So Fast…
As a new season draws closer in NASCAR, teams and drivers update their partners or sponsors on their team websites. When one fan finds out one team has updated this page, others flock to other team websites to seek out any changing sponsorships ahead of the new year.
This is what happened Thursday when fans on X noticed that, as expected, FedEx is missing from Joe Gibbs Racing’s Partner’s Page on their website. Surprisingly, however, Mavis Tire & Brakes, a fellow sponsor of Denny Hamlin, is also missing.
So, does this mean that Denny is losing another sponsor heading into 2025? The short answer is no; while they are missing from the page, it does not mean the sponsor is going anywhere. Yet, fans are still looking for an answer, as there is no clear reason why the sponsor is missing.
Fans should note, however, that last season, Mavis and JGR did not announce their 2024 plans until Jan. 31, and perhaps the two are still in negotiations entering 2025. With Daytona drawing ever closer, however, we will soon have an answer to this question. If the team loses this sponsor, it would be another major blow.
The Impact of Mavis and FedEx
Mavis joined JGR during the 2023 season, around the time that rumors of FedEx reducing its sponsorship in 2024 began to circulate. Mavis took an odd approach to sponsoring Hamlin, changing the paint scheme every time the No. 11 wins with their brand on the car.
In total, Mavis sponsored seven races in the 2024 season for Hamlin, with the departing FedEx sponsoring 13. If Hamlin loses Mavis, it will be a major blow to JGR, as that is 20 of the 36 sponsors raced in 2024 gone.
It seems unlikely that Hamlin and Mavis would part ways as the duo won three races together the past two seasons, along with an additional race won with Express Oil Change, a company associated with Mavis, on the hood of the No. 11.
Is This Weekend the Last NASCAR Race For FedEx?
What’s Happening? This weekend, Denny Hamlin is racing his classic FedEx No. 11 at Phoenix. However, while we could see them…
What Could This Mean for Hamlin?
In recent years, JGR has struggled to maintain major sponsors. While long-time partner Interstate Batteries remains with the team, following the 2023 season, Mars Inc. ended a 15-year sponsorship of Kyle Busch’s No. 18.
With prospect Ty Gibbs in the wings, Busch and JGR parted ways after their 15-year stint together. Fans online are worried if this happens to Hamlin, it could result in his ousting from JGR, similar to Busch.
While JGR has notable prospects, such as William Sawalich and Brent Crews, neither driver is ready for the Cup Level. Sawalich lacks experience, and Crews is only 16 years old. With the slim chance that Mavis leaves JGR, it seems unlikely Hamlin will go anywhere soon.
