What’s Happening?

Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal caught up with NASCAR Cup Series driver and team owner of 23XI Racing Denny Hamlin. According to Stern, Hamlin said that he wants to drive for 23XI Racing at some point. No specifics or timeline was given on if or when that could happen.

  • Denny Hamlin is 43 years old, and he has been driving in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2006. He has raced for Joe Gibbs Racing in the #11 car for his entire career, and both parties agreed to a multi-year contract extension near the end of the 2023 season. This means Hamlin is under contract at JGR likely at least through 2025.
  • Hamlin founded 23XI Racing alongside Michael Jordan, and the team started competing at NASCAR’s top level in 2021. The team enjoyed their best season yet in 2023, as both drivers, Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick, qualified for the Playoffs, with Reddick advancing to the Round of 8.
  • Fans are curious to see where Hamlin goes next. His age means that retirement is coming sooner rather than later, but, he is still competitive on the track. 23XI Racing is a major part of Hamlin’s current portfolio.
