What’s Happening?

Even though NASCAR has settled its lawsuit with team 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports, 23XI co-owner Denny Hamlin isn’t putting on the brakes just yet, calling for a public apology from Larry McReynolds following past criticisms of the lawsuit filed by the teams.

In late 2024, NASCAR Cup Series teams 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports filed an antitrust lawsuit against the sport following a turbulent negotiation period for the 2025 NASCAR Charter Agreement.

During the early portions of this lawsuit, before the shocking text messages, online debates, and other assorted litigation, it was somewhat easy to spot those supporting the teams and those supporting the ‘institution’ (NASCAR).

One individual whom many fans perceived to be in NASCAR’s camp was FOX Sports analyst and legendary Crew Chief Larry McReynolds.

From time to time, McReynolds threw some jabs at the lawsuit during episodes of his show, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s On Track.

A few of these were seemingly directed at 23XI Racing in particular, like an episode in early October 2024 when he said, “We’ve got an organization [23XI] that’s been here not even four years that all of a sudden is saying ‘we gotta change the way NASCAR’s run’.”

Similar comments flared up in 2025 when, in March, McReynolds stated that, in his opinion, FRM, the joint plaintiff in this lawsuit, was actually the “victim.” With McReynolds insinuating that Jenkins and FRM were brought in because 23XI “knew they needed an ally to even remotely have a leg to stand on,” saying that the team “convinced” FRM to join in on the lawsuit.

Now, not even a week after the teams and NASCAR settled this lawsuit, 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin is readdressing McReynolds’ and his co-host’s past takes on the lawsuit and asking for an apology.

Tuesday morning, Hamlin responded to a post from McReynolds about an upcoming episode of On Track, asking if the legendary Crew Chief and Analyst will “be issuing an apology for what you all said about 23XI/FRM when the lawsuit was filed?”

Hamlin even came back to this thread with receipts of his own, including mentioning McReynolds’ statement about the teams wanting to “change” NASCAR.

Of course, Hamlin and McReynolds occasionally butted heads online during the lawsuit, with Hamlin at one point asking McReynolds to “stop spreading disinformation” in mid-November 2024, regarding a non-lawsuit-related take on the playoffs.

Following his posts Tuesday morning, when asked by a fan why McReynolds should apologize, Hamlin says that in the fallout of the lawsuit, he hopes Larry Mac “took the time to analyze the situation post settlement and revise his thoughts.”

As of press time, McReynolds has yet to respond to Hamlin, though Tuesday’s episode of On Track is set to kick off at 11 AM ET.
